Calder urges action on West Fife Swimming Facilities

by jamescalder on 29 February, 2024

In the papers for the coming Fife Council Cabinet Committee, a paper detailing options for future Community Use Provision in South and West Fife in light of the replacement for Inverkeithing High School. Amongst the options include both providing swimming provision at either Inverkeithing or the Fleet Grounds site, or not providing it at all. Fife Liberal Democrat leader Councillor James Calder is urging action to protect swimming facilities in the area.

James Calder said,

We are already losing significant swimming capacity in the West Fife area with the closure of Woodmill, and if we lose a second pool then the Carnegie Leisure Centre will be bursting at the seams.

The report provides both options to both provide and not provide new swimming facilities as well as refurbishing the current ones. While I am pleased the report is finally being published, I want to see a commitment soon to ensure that we continue to have a community-use pool locally.

I will be urging the Administration to make it a matter of priority to protect swimming provision. The West Fife area cannot afford to lose another pool.
