At the Fife Council meeting, it was agreed to declare a housing emergency despite the opposition of the SNP. This was as a result of the motion which was backed by the Liberal Democrat group, which Fife Liberal Democrat leader James Calder seconded.

James Calder said,

Today Fife Council declared a Housing Emergency and this is a sad day.

Unfortunately this is the result of huge cutbacks of almost £200 million by the SNP/Green Scottish Government coalition.

My reaction is of complete disbelief to the SNP group however, and they seemed more interested in deflecting attention from the actions of their Government in Holyrood than standing up for the residents of Fife.

Despite their attempts to deflect from these cuts, we will keep the pressure on the Government and press them to change course.
