Lib Dems call for considerate parking at school gates

Liberal Democrat Councillors Aude Boubaker-Calder and James Calder have appealed for parents to park considerately outside schools in Dunfermline after a number of incidents were reported to them on the first day back after the summer holidays.

Councillor Boubaker-Calder, who is also the Fife Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson, said,

While it is necessary for many families to drop off their children outside schools, it is extremely important they both bear in mind the safety of other children but also maintaining good harmony with the residents living around schools.

While Fife Council are still trialling methods such as school streets which would restrict access to non-residents*, if everyone were to take care by the school gates now it would create a more positive environment for all.”

Councillor Calder added,

I’ve had a few people raise concerning incidents already today as schools go back, and it is crucial that anyone driving makes sure they are doing so in a considerate and safe way.

This means being fully aware of other children, not parking in front of driveways and importantly not parking on either double yellow lines or yellow zig zag lines.

I know most parents who drive do take care and I would appeal to everyone to make sure that road safety is a priority.
