Calais Woods Vandalism Anger

by jamescalder on 6 June, 2023

Last week Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dunfermline South James Calder met with local community activists to view the effects of littering and vandalism at the Calais Woods. He subsequently raised these incidents in reports for the Council’s Safer Communities Team, Police and Fire Service at the City of Dunfermline Area Committee today.

Speaking after the meeting Councillor Calder has said,

While it is great that there are some brilliant Community Groups who help take care of the Calais Woods and do their bit to tidy it up, it angers me that an antisocial minority are causing damage. This includes littering, putting graffiti in trees and creating dangerous fires.

I raised this at the City of Dunfermline Area Committee and I am particularly keen that the various services such as the police use their outreach work at schools to try and prevent this kind of behaviour taking place.

The police did speak about their work but acknowledged some of the challengers.

I would also urge members of the public who view antisocial behaviour in the area to contact the police.

Finally after speaking to the volunteers last week, I know how keen they are for anyone who is up for helping to come along to their upcoming litterpick on Saturday 17 June and I know all support would be welcome.

Note to editors: Litterpick is being advertised by Calais Wood Wombles who are likely to be contacting media outlets independently, which will be taking place on 17 June at 2.00pm meeting by the Duloch Leisure Centre.
