Progress must be made in Dunfermline and West Fife Catchment Areas

Next week the Education and Children’s Services Committee of Fife Council will meet and decide on whether to proceed to consultation for the changes required in Dunfeemline and West Fife Catchment areas. Fife Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson and Councillor for Dunfermline South is urging for Councillors to make progress on this issue which is continuing to create anxiety for families in this area.

Councillor Calder has said,

For too long families in West Fife have been living in uncertainty over the catchment changes and the Council needs to act swiftly here. The proposed changes next week are sensible in keeping all children in Dunfermline within schools in Dunfermline and include proposals such as ensuring all Pitreavie and Canmore Primary children go to Dunfermline High School.

Next week I will support going to the next phase of consultation, and I urge other Councillors to also support this. We need to make progress to make sure we don’t have a repeat of this year’s debacle where 95 children were told they could not go to their catchment school. In addition, the Council Administration must make more progress in persuading the Scottish Government to support the sustainable solution of new High Schools in Dunfermline.
