Dunfermline Schools Catchment Update

by jamescalder on 19 January, 2018

Next week the Education and Children’s Services Committee will meet to discuss a report on the Dunfermline Schools catchment situation. While I will not be at the meeting I will be discussing this with my fellow Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Brett who will be our Party’s representative to the Committee.

The current situation in my view is deeply unsatisfactory and I am unhappy about how events have proceeded. It is important that the Council makes a resolution soon and I am hoping that the sensible suggestions, such as ensuring all of Canmore and Pitreavie Primary School pupils get to go to Dunfermline High, will be put forward.

The report puts forward a timetable on how the process will take over the coming months. The hope is a proposal paper will be prepared for March 2018, with the Consultation process taking place from 16th April. After being sent to Education Scotland, we should see a final paper brought to the Council in August 2018 for making a decision which will then take effect from August 2019 for that School year.

If anyone wishes to discuss this with me please feel free to contact me.
