During a motion on the impact of the National Insurance increase on public bodies in Fife, the Fife Liberal Democrats successfully put forward an amendment which requested that alongside funding third sector and public sector in Fife to deal with the increase, that GPs, dentists and social care providers are also funded. The motion passed after being amended by the Liberal Democrats.
Speaking after the meeting, Fife Liberal Democrat leader Councillor James Calder stated,
Leave a commentThe Chancellor of the Exchequer’s National Insurance rise is impacting a number of public services in Scotland.
This includes GPs, dentists and the social care sector. There is no commitment yet from the Government to fund these sectors and this will have a major impact on the services that the public depends on.
I am pleased that the Fife Liberal Democrats have successfully made the case today that these services should be properly funded by both the UK and Scottish Governments to deal with this increase.
I hope the Chancellor takes the growing calls not just here in Fife but across the UK and takes action to mitigate this increase.
