At a meeting of the Fife Council Cabinet Committee, Fife Liberal Democrat leader Councillor James Calder called out the SNP for attempting to remove an agreement that the funding for energy efficiency measures was unaffordable for council house rent payers.
James Calder said,
Leave a commentThe SNP on one hand claim they are on the side of council house tenants by saying they would have lower rents, and then on the other hand would suggest they should be paying a huge amount for Government mandated improvements in energy efficiency standards.
The Council report today showed this would cost a fortune and not affordable for rent payers and if this Government is as green as it claims to be, it needs to provide more support.
New energy efficiency standards are important to tackle the Climate Emergency and I would hope to see more Scottish Government funding to help with this.
The SNP group in Fife of course wouldn’t dare to say anything remotely critical of their Government and if they had their way our rent payers would paying through the nose on this front.
The Liberal Democrats will continue to stand up both to support local rent payers in Fife and also for better support to make homes more energy efficient.
