P1 National Testing

by jamescalder on 5 October, 2018

At the Fife Full Council it was agreed that the Scottish Government to withdraw the requirement for P1 SNSA Assessments and that Fife should look to ending these tests. Fife Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson James Calder led the debate and has welcomed the outcome.
Cllr. Calder has said,
After leading the debate today, I welcome that Fife Council has joined the Scottish Parliament in opposing these unnecessary national tests. It is unfortunate that the SNP seemed to be more concerned with defending their Government’s discredited position than to listen to professionals, such as the EIS which has said it is opposed to these.
However we can now work to listening to teachers and also to back the will of the Scottish Parliament on this issue. I was happy to vote alongside other parties who all agree that children’s learning, rather than testing, should be paramount.
