Motion to Reduce Speed in Dunfermline

by jamescalder on 2 January, 2018

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dunfermline South James Calder has been contacted by a number of constituents regarding issues related to fast moving traffic in roads passing by residential areas in Dunfermline. Particular problems have included on Carnegie Avenue and Lapwing Drive. As a result Cllr. Calder has put a motion forward at the next City of Dunfermline Area Committee to make the maximum speed limit for Single Carriageways in Dunfermline to be 30 mph.

Cllr. Calder has said,

When people live next to roads that are 40 mph this causes a lot of distress for those living by them. In some of these roads children need to cross them to get to their school bus and this is a huge danger. Speeding cars and lorries in particular are also a major disruption for residents too.

There are obvious benefits to making Dunfermline’s Single Carriageways a 30 mph speed limit. The safety benefit both to drivers and pedestrians, including children, is enormous. In addition to this, this will also have benefits both in reducing air and noise pollution for residents.

I am hoping the Councillors of Dunfermline can work together to bring a tangible difference for everyone living by these roads when we meet to discuss this at the next Dunfermline Area Committee on the 9th January.
