Area Committee Report on Green Areas

by jamescalder on 2 October, 2018

At today’s City of Dunfermline Area Committee Meeting there was a report from Parks, Streets and Open Spaces. A number of items were discussed, including an additional 10 staff to be given to Dunfermline and Council attempts to challenge contracts on private land.
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dunfermline South James Calder has said,
First of all I am delighted that after campaigning over the past few months over the disparity in which Dunfermline receives less than other areas of Fife for Parks funding, the Council has finally agreed to increase funds for employing staff in Dunfermline. This is long overdue and will be welcome amongst local communities who have been raising this to me.
I did have concerns on the item of the report which will result in private areas of land where the Council has signed contracts to take care of the green areas that there was the possibility of attempts to terminate this. This will apparently include Pitcorthie in my ward and potentially other areas where people are living.
Many of my constituents are rightly concerned but I am glad other Councillors shared my concerns over the legalities of terminating these contracts.
