Setback on Abbeyview Community Centre Funding

by jamescalder on 20 June, 2018

There is significant disappointment in the Abbeyview Community that Fife Council has decided to not proceed with a funding application for Scottish Government funding this year. Liberal Democrat Dunfermline South Councillor James Calder attended a meeting held by Dunfermline Area Services Manager Joe McGuinness with members of the Abbeyview Community in attendance.

Cllr. Calder has said,

After assurances that a funding application would be made to the Scottish Government earlier this year, members of the Abbeyview Community are rightly furious that no action will be taken in moderning their facilities this year. This was made clear at a meeting that has taken place in the Tryst Centre. Local Councillors are also disappointed that they were not consulted on a decision on this long running issue.

It seems that Fife Council have decided to proceed with an application for Scottish Government funding to do a similar project in Templehall in Kirkcaldy. It is difficult to understand why the Abbeyview Community has been ignored here and in my view Fife Council should have also made a funding application for Abbeyview.

I am urgently calling for answers from the Council as to why this decision was made without consultation with elected members and the wider community.
