Figures uncovered by Fife Liberal Democrat Education Spokesperson Councillor James Calder show that pest controllers have dealt with over 500 infestations schools and nurseries in the current academic year alone.
Councillor Calder has said,
Leave a commentI am concerned about the numbers of incidents that pest controllers have been brought out to deal with infestations in Fife’s schools. Issues raised have included rats, mouse droppings and wasps nests in the school and nursery grounds.
It is well known that many of Fife’s schools are rated as in poor condition, and this is perhaps contributing to these levels. However we must ensure in all schools that conditions are safe for children. Not only is getting pest control out going to potentially disrupt classroom activity, but issues such as rats and wasps present a major health risk.
Fife Council must redouble efforts to try and prevent pest control issues occurring before the point that these present a health and safety risk to our children.
