Letter back from John Swinney on Dunfermline High Schools

by jamescalder on 11 January, 2018

After a recent petition launched by Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dunfermline South James Calder that received over 300 signatures, he wrote to John Swinney’s MSP, the Scottish Education Secretary. Mr Swinney has now replied with a positive response.

Councillor Calder has said,

After the fantastic response to my petition I made a point of making the views of people locally clear to the Scottish Government Education Secretary John Swinney. I am pleased to say he has now responded to me on the matter.

Mr Swinney has said he is looking at developing the Scotland’s Learning Estate Investment Plan to build on the School’s for the Future Programme of the Scottish Government. Work on this plan should be commencing soon with an announcement later this year.

I am hopeful this will lead to the Scottish Government adding to the funds already put in place by Fife Council to replace local High Schools in Dunfermline and West Fife. In the meantime I will continue to press for the Scottish Government and Fife Council to resolve this issue, which after the recent announcement of 95 children not being able to go to Woodmill is clearly getting worse.
