West Fife Common Good Sub-Committee 19/09/17

Today I attended my first meeting of the West Fife Common Good Sub-Committee. The meeting provided new members with an introduction of the work of the committee as well as approval being granted for funding applications.

The Sub-Committee is made up of Councillors from both the Dunfermline and South West Fife areas. The primary role is to decide whether or not to approve funding applications for various community events and projects.

The beginning of the meeting dealt with appointing a Chair and Vice-Chair (the Chair being Cllr. Helen Law) as well as going over the financial statement.

After this we moved onto approvals. Both items presented were approved by Councillors. One was for the Lammas Fair in Inverkeithing and was approving funding additional overtime by Parks, Streets and Open Spaces which was required to allow this event to proceed. The other item was an application for assistance by Central Dunfermline Community Council for its ‘Herd on the Hill’ art installation in Dunfermline Public Park (featuring various cows).

The meeting provided an interesting introduction to the work done by the sub-committee and the next meeting should be taking place in November. It should be noted projects in the Dunfermline South Ward such as Pitcorthie Playgroup and Abbeyview Day Centre have been supported by this funding.
